Good dental hygiene also includes a six-monthly visit to the dental hygienist. The dental hygienist helps prevent and combat gum problems and cavities in the teeth. They also provide advice on daily oral care.
Treatments that can be performed by the dental hygienist are:
- Providing advice and information about, among other things, the development of caries, gum disease and dietary habits;
- Removing tartar, plaque and deposits;
- Education and oral hygiene instructions;
- Complete dental cleaning;
- Applying sealants to prevent cavities;
- Application of fluoride;
- Preventive treatments;
- Oral examinations;
- Polishing fillings;
- Smoothing of root surfaces.
